Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)

Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)

At Dr. Pampaniya’s Neuro Hospital and ICU, we use advanced Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) to check how well your nerves are working. This test helps us detect nerve damage, pinched nerves, or conditions that affect the way signals travel through your nervous system.

What is NCS?

Nerve Conduction Study is a diagnostic test that measures the speed and strength of signals traveling through your nerves. Small patches (electrodes) are placed on your skin, and mild electrical pulses are sent through specific nerves to see how quickly they respond.

The test may cause a slight tingling or tapping sensation but is generally well-tolerated and safe.

Why Might You Need an NCS?

Dr. Nakul Pampaniya may recommend NCS if you have:

  • Tingling or numbness in arms, hands, legs, or feet

  • Muscle weakness

  • Pain or burning sensations in the limbs

  • Suspected nerve compression (like carpal tunnel syndrome)

  • Peripheral neuropathy (often seen in diabetes)

  • Radiculopathy (pinched nerves in spine)

  • Guillain-Barré Syndrome or other nerve disorders

NCS helps us identify where the nerve is damaged, how severe it is, and what treatment would work best.

How to Prepare for the Test

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.

  • Avoid applying creams or lotions on the day of the test.

  • Inform us about any pacemakers or implants you may have.
